Jobs that Need Fearless Critics
* Corporate Organizer. Companies need somebody who can pull an events team together. The job description is very accurate about this. The candidate must be that clever to spot inefficiencies and deal with these immediately. Must be able to work without supervision. Now which critic wants someone breathing fire on his or her neck?
* Wedding Consultant. This breed is hired to carp about the bride’s figure so that figure needs trimming down before she can get into a gown recommended by the consultant. It is also the wedding consultant’sjob to turn down the suggestions of the bride, after a barrage of cool professionalized criticisms.
* Travel Critic. This one’s cool. You know they are around because of their loud travel alarm clocks. These losers get paid to travel abroad and that travel wallet of theirs is bursting at the seams because they are going to lambast so-so hotels or narrate elabaoratly how a cockroach did gymnastics on the bed. They watch the time too from tiny world time clocks to note how long it took to serve his coffee.
* Fashion Critic. They are sitting on the front rows with cameras flashing. Their raised eyebrows, rolled eyes give away their thoughts. Wait until you read the papers. The venom can be catching.
* Movie Critic. They always get the tickets to premieres and their declarations can doom one’s acting career or resurrect it from the dead. They are that powerful; didn’t we all know that?
* Product Inspector. They are eagle-eyed, the better to spot product irregularities and when they find any, they are worth their weight in dollars. Manufacturers would rather pay these guys than face a mob of angry customers.
Being freakishly critical is a blight and a blessing. It is a curse because you have something worse than foul breath. It’s a blessing because you get the top jobs when the economy is limping. Friends, if there are any left, can’t tolerate them for 30 seconds but bosses hunt everywhere for fault finders. What a contradiction, but then you are hired, so what if you are loathsome?
