A home alarm can give a family a sense of safety and security. Home alarms can include protection for a specific object in the home, or for an area in or around the home, or for the entire property. These types of alarms come in two special types.
Different types of alarms do different things. An alarm can tell if there is a fire in a house, or if there is a high level of carbon monoxide. Some alarms do both. Other alarms are purely to deter burglars and people trying to invade a home. Alarm systems can be monitored by a central system that keeps track of how many pets are in a home or what a house’s floor plan might be.
There are many reasons for getting a house alarm installed. Many people like to collect things of value. Others keep irreplaceable things in their home that need protection. Sometimes people spend long periods away from their home, leaving it unprotected. Or a home might be in a remote area that is difficult for neighbors to monitor. All of these are good reasons for getting home alarms installed.
A perimeter alarm is one type of house alarm that is meant to protect around the property or the house or both. All the entryways into the area the alarm is protecting are physically guarded by either magnetic contacts, strips of special foil tape or vibration detectors. If these are broken or severed from their other contacts, the alarm is triggered. There are also more modern small round discs that can be attached to the corners of a window’s frame that will react to the vibration of window glass breaking.
Area alarms work differently than perimeter alarms. Area home alarms are meant to protect a particular area of the house and property. With the help of electronic sensors, an area alarm will cast beams through the expected area which is usually a room or a hallway. If there is any interruption of the system, the alarm will be triggered. Area home alarms can detect light, sound and movement, or even pressure and temperature.
When it comes to area home alarms, there are several kinds. Some alarms use photoelectric eyes that are triggered by a light beam that gets interrupted if someone goes through it. With other alarms, infrared detectors sense body heat or microwaves detect motion. Alarms can be of many types, but the general idea is to fill a space with something that a person moving through that space will interrupt, triggering an electronic response.
Detection alarms are intended to trigger a noise that is loud enough to scare off burglars and other dangerous intruders. It’s also good to have alarms that turn the lights on, indoors and out. This will make your house more noticeable to neighbors and the police, while lighting up areas that would be ideal for a burglar to hide.
It’s possible to protect a house without having home alarms installed. Things like sturdy doors and windows, proper exterior lighting and high quality locks can keep people from succeeding in entering the home. Having a house in what’s considered an average neighborhood, a house that doesn’t stand out is a good idea as well, and keeps your home from being a target. A home alarm that has a monitoring system is more expensive but ultimately is a great choice.
